Cricket Numerology

As a die-hard Indian cricket fan, not only do I watch ODIs and T20Is, but also Test matches ball-by-ball. However, this post, like all other posts on this blog, deals with numerology. And, it deals with cricket.

Over the last two years, I have noticed more and more Indian cricketers wear jersey numbers that are either lucky or are their birth numbers. Sourav Ganguly was among the first to do this; he would change jersey numbers depending upon the opposition and the date the game was played on. Rahul Dravid wore "19" in ODIs since his wife's birthday was on the 19th. Sachin Tendulkar wears "10" because he is "Ten"dulkar, not to mention he is the best player in the team; just like in football, where you had Pele and Maradona wear 10. However, everyone else (at that time) seemed to have picked a number that fancied them, whether it was numerologically favourable or not.

I snapped this picture on my laptop while watching the CB Series in early 2008 having noticed the "lucky" numbers chosen by our cricketers. Why did they pick those numbers? Well, here are their dates of birth and maybe some of their jersey numbers will make sense.

(dd-mm-yyyy; Source: www.cricinfo.com)

MS Dhoni (7.7.1981)
Yuvraj Singh (12.12.1981)
Gautam Gambhir (14.10.1981)
Rohit Sharma (30.4.1987)
Robin Uthappa (11.11.1985)
Ishant Sharma (2.9.1988)

More "Cricket Numerology" to follow in future posts.

* Google tells you that Sanjay B. Jumaani is a numerologist who suggested some of the numbers the cricketers should wear.

Why not Hindustan?

My friend from my days at Bombay University, Sameer Gokhale, responded by email to my previous post on Bharatvarsha. Sameer asks me how Hindustan fared as a name. Here is my reply to him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sameer:

Name number is supposed to be in harmony with date of birth and total (fadic) number.
India was created on 15.8.1947. So date is 6 (1+5 =6) and total is 8 (1+5+8+1+9+4+7 = 35; 3+5 =8). India is 3, which is Guru (Jupiter) number, while 6 is Shukra (Venus) and 8 is Shani (Saturn). 3 is the enemy of 6 AND 8. The friends for 6 and 8 are 5 (Mercury, Budh), 6 and 8. Therefore the name of the country should total to 5, 6 or 8. But as 8 is a bad number overall, it should be avoided as a name number. In order to offset the negative effects of 8 as the fadic number, you use the positive numbers 5 and 6 in the name. Hence Bharat (15) , Bharatvarsh (32) and Bharatavarsh/Bharatvarsha (33) are good.

Hindustan totals to 34; a 7 (Ketu) and 7 is an average number. Doesn' t have the power of numbers like 1, 3, 5, 6 and 9 which are positive numbers. Also, 7 is an enemy of 8, and neutral to 6. Therefore it wouldn't be a good choice as a name.
By itself, 34 is a generally fortunate number and is good for individuals and provides material benefit and progress, but gives addiction to women and alcohol. Hence it is an avoidable name number.

However Hindoostan (42) is a fantabulous number; on par with 33. And Hindoostan and Hindustan are pronounced the same way.

Numerology for India

My friend Srinivas Shastri shares my interest in numerology. This is actually a comment I wrote in one of his blogs. It has been cleaned up a little and made to look a little more pretty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In fact better than Bharat (15) is Bharatavarsh (33), a number signifying abundant wealth and prosperity. The spelling is based on the pronunciation when written in Sanskrit. Even the misspelling/ mispronunciation Bharatvarsh (32) is a number that is friendly to 6 and 8. Currently India (12) is inimical to both 6 and 8. If modified/pronounced as Bharatvarsha it would still be 33.

33 is sattvik while 15 is rajasic, and thus 33 is more suitable given our country's sattvik nature. 15 shows a decline in divinity while 33 provides the grace of the Mother Goddess, Parasakthi. 33 is also considered a number of Lakshmi, who provides us with plenty - dhanam dhaanyam bahu putra laabham (Shree Sooktam). Bharatvarsha, with the grace of mother Parasakthi would be most accurate symbolism of Bharatmata, who is depicted in the form of Goddess Durga seated a lion.
Let us pray that our country is rid of its evils and that all of us can live peacefully and happily.
